Retired from a career in higher education administration, Bob Blackmon lives and paints in Troy, New York. He is primarily a still life artist whose works are characterized by realism, rich colors, sharp contrasts of light and dark, and dark backgrounds-- the Baroque style. He strives to find and reveal beauty in life’s simple things. Unless otherwise noted, all my paintings on this site are framed or on gallery wrap canvas. Please comment on my work, as comments help me develop as an artist.
Blackmon’s still life style is influenced by the work of the French artist, Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin and that of his first art instructor, Bob Tompkins.
Prior to his retirement in 2005, Blackmon held academic administrative positions at the University of Arkansas, the State University of New York, and Louisiana State University (where he received his PhD many years ago) and was a Scholar in Residence at the Pakistan Forest Institute in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Over the years Blackmon has shown his work in numerous juried and non-juried exhibitions and galleries in Louisiana, Mississippi, and New York. He was recently invited into the Blue Mountain Designs Adirondack Gallery, Blue Mountain Lake, New York and became one of the artists at the Ardmore Gallery, County Waterford, Republic of Ireland.
He is a member of the Colonie Art League (NY), the Albany Artists Group (NY), the Albany Center Gallery (NY), the Arts Center of the Capital Region (NY), the DeSoto Arts Council (LA), and a founding director of the East Bank Art Alliance (NY).
