Donna is an award winning artist who lives in Calgary where she works full time as an artist and teacher. She uses loose brushstrokes to simplify and suggest details using a wet into wet technique. Although representational she considers herself an impressionist leaving bits and pieces of her paintings undeveloped in order to draw the viewer into the painting as a participant.
"Painting has become a passion and a wonderful necessity in my life. Since becoming a full time artist, I have unexpectedly discovered that painting provides me relief from almost daily migraines which I've had for over thirty years. I truly believe that I am doing what I was always meant to do and feel very blessed!"
This year she was a finalist in the Richeson 75 Small Works Exhibition, Wisconsin as well as the Canadian Brushstrokes Magazine's Potrait and Figure Competion. The Federation of Canadian Artists awarded her 2nd Place and Honorable Mention in the 2011 Shows.
In 2010 her painting "Christmas Bundles" was chosen as part of the 2010 TPH Charitable Greeting Card Campaign and "Pond Essentials" has been chosen for their 2011 campaign.
As a way of "paying it forward" Donna donates 10% of her profit from the sale of her paintings to KIVA an organization that provides loans to people in third world countries to start or expand a business. "I think it is a wonderful way to feel like you are making a difference in someone's life!"She is an active member of the Canadian Federation of Artists,Oil Painters of America and is represented by Swirl Fine Art Gallery.
