Kirk Witmer lives a bit to the northwest of Austin, Texas with his wife and Rascal the Wonder Dog. When he's not painting, reading about painting, taking pictures of his paintings or taking pictures to be painted, he volunteers time as webmaster for the Williamson County Art Guild, which is a website that has a lot of paintings. (Are you beginning to see a recurring theme here?)
As an artist, Kirk considers himself a work in progress and gives study, observation and practice much of the credit for his continued improvement. "Each painting I do presents a new challenge, and a new problem to solve, or even a new experiment to try, all of which in turn gives me a new bit of experience with every one. I spent most of a year trying smaller quicker paintings but the "production line" approach to my art just did not give me the sense of satisfaction that I get from having been focussed on larger "longer term" projects and painting in series of one subject matter."

Artist's Statement:
"It's about storytelling. I would like to think that looking at my work brings a backstory to the mind of the viewer. It may not be the same story for every viewer and perhaps be even quite different than the story that I had in mind, but hopefully I will have created something that causes a viewer to think beyond what they are seeing and into the story about it."

Kirk is a self-representing painter, advertising works on his blog and website.
