The Superstition Challenge

I thought it would be fun to paint a concept or idea instead of just a visual so the idea of painting an image about superstition conjured up in my mind. The ole stand by that one should never open an umbrella indoors came quickly to mind so I thought I would take of shot of doing just that AND add a cat to the image for good measure. Now what would be ideal is to make the cat black and if you have the mad art skills to make that happen even better!

You can, however, paint anything you want:
1. turned over salt shaker
2. someone walking under a ladder
3. a black cat, who just spilt some salt, while holding an umbrella indoors under a ladder who also managed to break a mirror when he opened the umbrella.
Or any or none of the above. Maybe you have your own superstitions you could illustrate?

In my research online I came across a superstition that unmarried women should never kiss a man with a moustache at a wedding. That was a new one to me. The whole bridal thing could be incorporated as well, "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". There's so much to choose from!

But for those who wish to, please feel free to use the image I supplied for this challenge and crop them as you'd like. I think that the red umbrella with the golden brown flooring gives a rich enticing appeal. Good luck! (and I mean that!).

The DPW Challenge is about sharing, learning, and fun.

Each challenge consists of an image - either a photo or a painting - and a description or instructions. In most cases, participating is as simple as submitting your version of the image.

Anyone can participate by submitting an entry to any challenge - there are no deadlines! You can even submit more than once to a challenge. Any 2D media is welcome and don't be afraid to interpret.

Only for the non-fundraising challenges, please be sure to follow the spirit and the letter of the challenge. For example, each submission must be painted after the challenge is posted!

Simply click on the challenge you want to enter, then click on the Submit to the Challenge! link on the challenge page, fill in the dialog form that appears, and upload an image no larger than 1 mb and at least between 300 to 500 pixels tall or wide.

As a bonus, even if you are not a member of DPW, your challenge entries will be displayed with prices and links for purchase, in addition to description, painting media, and size. So be sure to enter all the information so someone can buy your painting!

And, the best part is there are no fees or commissions. You will also be able to mark your painting as sold when someone does buy it.

Now, will you submit to the Challenge?

To view and bid in the auction of any painting in this Fundraising Challenge, simply click on the painting's thumbnail.

Each participating artist has agreed to donate 100% of the proceeds of the sale, minus the shipping costs, as described in the fundraiser's description. Deatails on how each donation will be allocated can be found in each painting's description on the painting's auction page. If it is not, please feel free to contact the artist by clicking the Contact the Artist link on the painting's auction page.

While DPW manages the fundraiser and the auctions, the actual purchase is directly between you and the artist. At the end of the auction, a PayPal button will be made available by email and on the auction page itself. This is only meant to be a convenience - you and the artist are free to handle the payment in any way you both wish.

DPW will charge no fees in this fundraiser, however PayPal will charge the artist their normal fee if used for the purchase.

Thank you for your kind patronage and generosity.
