The genre of still life has been where I have found my voice, and it occurs to me this is even more meaningful now, as truly still life is a reminder that life is brief, take joy in simple pleasures. Recently a profound loss in my family brought this close to my heart. Out of the blue, my sister’s vibrant 33 year old husband faced a brave journey with 4th stage colon cancer. Seven months later he was gone from us and his two young children far too soon. Going forward, a percentage of painting sales from my DPW web site will be given to Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and a Memorial college fund.
Specifically I have chosen Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation because 100% of their donations fund cutting-edge cancer research including in my own state of NC at Duke and Chapel Hill. Damon Runyon funds the best early-career scientists, who have great potential to achieve breakthroughs in how we diagnose, treat and prevent cancer, including genetic protocol. http://www.damonrunyon.org/ I also appreciate that their fundraising and administrative cost are paid by Damon Runyon Broadway Tickets (a nod to the arts) so that truly 100% of all direct donations are used to support research.

Kristin Gibson is a full time artist who lives and paints in Carolina Beach, near Wilmington, NC. Her husband John is a graphic designer, she has two children, a bunny rabbit and a mug full of green tea that keeps her going! Kristin studied at East Carolina University School of Art and received a BFA in Painting & Surface Design. Kristin paints almost everyday on her dining room easel or out in the salt air.
