"Cities, towns and landscapes form the primary inspiration for my
paintings. I am especially drawn to the humble, ordinary situations of
daily life, to old houses, and to the way that light can transform a
landscape into something suddenly magical. Watercolor's transparent
nature is especially suited to conveying the effects of light, while the
opaque medium of gouache can lend substance and solidity to a painting.
I like to use both, alone or together, depending on the subject and
atmosphere."
"I have been fortunate to travel extensively and to live in a number of countries. Besides the United States and my native Holland, I have lived in Italy, Turkey, and most recently, Germany. These and many other countries provide an endless source of inspiration.
