Recognition of Rita's art is steadily increasing. Her painting "The Writer" was given full page coverage in International Artist
magazine. She has won awards in major national shows such as Oil Painters of America, and has been a finalist in The Artists
magazine, Raymar Art, and BoldBrush competitions. A recent proponent of plein air painting, she's been juried
into Paint Annapolis 2010 and 2011 and received the Best of Show award
at last year's Solomons, Maryland plein air festival.
Rita's widely-praised use of color comes from years of personal development as well as study with master painters David Leffel and Frank Mason at the Art Student's League of New York. Her understanding of the human figure comes from working with Robert Beverly Hale, the preeminent anatomist of two generations of American artists.
Rita
studied intellectual history at New York University and literature and art in Perugia, Italy. She
later became a publications designer and illustrator for Johns Hopkins
University. Her illustrations are featured worldwide in manuals produced
by the World Health Organization. Images and colors from her travels to
Africa and Asia suffuse many of her paintings.
