Tom Brown is a third generation artist. Originally from the Midwest, he began a successful art career in advertising. During that time he also began selling paintings in galleries and left advertising to pursue fine art full time when his first one-man show in Chicago was a virtual sellout.
He is the subject of a recent TV film that documents his plein air painting style and his work has been represented through prominent galleries in nine states for more than 20 years. His paintings are in corporate collections including Sears, Standard Oil, and Coca Cola. His art has also been seen in Southwest Art, Art & Antiques, American Art Review and other leading art publications.
Tom Brown has lived in Southern California since the 1980s. He works in the Impressionist style, and his oil paintings are known for their bold, confident brushwork that vibrates with energy and strength as they capture the magical light and beauty of the California landscape. In addition to plein air painting, Tom enjoys studio painting and working on frequent commissions.
He is a former president of the Orange Art Association and past member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and Southern California Plein Air Painters Association. He has won numerous awards in plein air painting competitions.
Tom’s natural gift for teaching has created an enthusiastic following for his popular workshops and classes. He also shares his teaching methods through art lessons on CD. Tom is in demand as a lecturer, demonstrator and judge for Art Associations and gallery openings.
