This challenge is more of an exercise and might not yield a finished painting, but it is a good exercise to train your observational skills. When painting on location, your subject will change and sometimes leave. I like to add figures in my plein air paintings, but I have to be quick and observant. This is an exercise I give my students and use myself to practice.
Choose a photo with some figures, cars, animals, etc. Really anything will work. You can use my photo or choose one for yourself. Study the photo, giving yourself about 30-60 seconds. Put the photo down and don't peek! Then do a quick sketch with the medium of your choice. Focus on the large shapes and realize that details don't really matter. Just worry about the figures, not the background. Again, you don't need to make a finished painting. When you are done, check back with the photo. How did you do?
Actually, the real question you should ask yourself is does it look like a person, animal, etc... It doesn't have to be exact. Is it believable?...
Please be sure to follow the spirit and the letter of the challenge.
For example, each submission must be painted after the challenge is posted.
