My son and stepdaughter had some recent bouts with water balloons, which prompted me to join them, which led to me painting them, which was tough, which led to this week's challenge! I thought it would be fun to see what you guys come up with. So go out and buy a small bag of water balloons and fill a few with water. The painting part comes next, but be careful when you’re setting up not to drop them!
Hint: Because water balloons are fairly translucent, I found contrast to be a problem. If I put them on a white background I didn’t get enough darks, and on a dark background there weren’t enough lights. It helped me to add something dark to my composition.
Another hint: Pay special attention to what happens at the edges of the balloons, but don’t exaggerate these slight shifts in value!
One more hint: Have fun with this! And oh yeah, throw them at someone when you’re done. It’s a great stress reliever!
Please be sure to follow the spirit and the letter of the challenge.
For example, each submission must be painted after the challenge is posted.
