Andy Tschoepe

I paint the human figure primarily. I adopt an essential approach to painting, using a handful of brushes and a streamlined palette consisting mostly of primary and secondary colors. My concept is aesthetic; I want the piece of art to be visually interesting above all else. I concern myself with elements that I think are critical to producing a good painting: composition, form, light, color, paint quality, brushwork. I like to describe the subject in a way that is not complicated, preferring a degree of looseness and abstraction over excessively tight, detailed rendering. I work in a spontaneous way, not knowing what specifically the end result will be. Responding to what happens on the canvas with each decision that I make, reflecting moment by moment, keeps me present in the painting experience and gives me the greatest possible enrichment.

I am generally available for most commissions.
