Hi! I'm Ann Cohen and I graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with an undergraduate degree in Communication Arts. I have always enjoyed drawing, but it wasn’t until I took a color theory class at Alabama A & M University under Bill Nance that I began to see and mix colors anew. I have gone on to enjoy painting sporadically for many years as I raised my daughter and pursued a career in Real Estate.

It was through a move from Huntsville to Birmingham, Alabama in 2015 that I took a necessary break from my real estate business and began painting in earnest. In 2016 I joined the Mountain Brook Art Association and participated in my first art show that spring.

Two days before a trip to Portland, Oregon in 2016 I woke up with an inspiration to paint a Mondrian influenced bicycle. I just HAD to get it finished before my husband, Dale and I left town, lest I forget that dream image. That has led to many more bicycle paintings which are among my client favorites.

Dale and I have four beautiful grandchildren, three of which were born in 2016. We also have two indoor cats, Percy and Lily, and a domesticated outdoor stray named Callie. Painting my own cats has led to a love of painting birds, animals, and beloved pets of others.

I enjoy painting in both oil and acrylics, as each medium lends itself toward a different approach and effect, and this keeps my creativity active!

I'm an observer of light and color, and when I die I hope to have a smudge of paint on my face or hands so my Creator will know just how much fun I've had playing with His colors here on earth!
