Jennifer "Jen" Evenhus

Jen is a nationally recognized award-winning artist, naturally drawn to patterns, shapes, and movement found in nature, cityscapes, interiors, figures and everyday objects, translating those into eye-stopping works of art. Jen captures their essence with simplification and exaggeration in contemporary impressionist and abstract paintings. The process, or journey, of painting with the exploration, risks, failures and triumphs is her impetus to providing the viewer with emotions and memories that her contemporary paintings evoke. Jen's work is recognized by its dynamic composition, bold use of color, and confident application of pastel or oil.

Jen has become well-known for her 10-minute pastel paintings, completing a painting in just 10 minutes, which forces her to focus on composition, value, shapes and movement and most important, to not overwork, a great exercise she uses with her workshop students.

Jennifer is a Master Pastelist in the Pastel Society of America, a Distinquished Pastelist in the Northwest Pastel Society, an IAPS-Master Circle member, and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.
Jennifer exhibits on a national level most recently receiving 2nd Place in the PSWC Online Member's Exhibit, an Honorable Mention in the 2nd Annual UArt Online Juried Exhibit, and a Juror's Award in the 2016 NPS International Juried Exhibit. She exhibited 2 paintings at the 2015 IAPS International Exhibit in Albuquerque; the 2015 and 2014 NPS International Open Exhibit in Tacoma, and 2014 Pastel Society of America 42nd Annual International Juried Exhibition in New York City. Jen was awarded the Connecticut Pastel Society Member's Award in their 2015 "Renaissance in Pastel" Exhibit. Her work was accepted in the 2015 IAPS online show, earning her the gold medallion and the IAPS-Master Circle designation.

Her work has been published in magazines such as the Pastel Journal and American Artist; most recently featured on the cover of the August 2016 issue of Pastel Journal with a 10-page feature article on her floral paintings; in the April 2016 and 2015 issue of Pastel Journal with 2 Honorable Mentions in the Pastel 100 Competition and the April 2014 issue of The Pastel Journal in an article featuring her Bronze Medal Award in their 2014 Pastel 100 competition.

Jennifer is an established national workshop instructor and show judge, giving "The Beauty of Imperfection" pastel workshops for beginner through advanced students. Jennifer enjoyed an extended workshop trip to the East Coast in June 2016 where she gave an evening demo and 3-day master class workshop at Stan Sperlak's fabulous venue at Crow Creek Farm and then in Cape Cod juried their 2016 National Juried Show "For Pastels Only On Cape Cod," and gave 3)2-day workshops with 18 students in each!

Here is a testimonial: "Your workshop was a huge turning point for me in terms of really understanding mark making. It was an ah-ha moment really and it has stayed, plus the multiple timed works was excellent!" Patti B.

Another: "Jen, thank you for your workshop on the Cape. Your class changed me profoundly! I have been painting more, faster, looser and with lots of color. The joy has returned to my painting sessions." Shelly E.
