My great-grandfather was a landscape painter from Sweden. My father, a cabinetmaker and boat builder, taught me how to use tools so I could make things. I love pop culture, people and 'scapes of all kinds. I am an indigenous Californian and though I've traveled I still think it's the best place to paint!
My favorite artists are Elmer Bischoff, Wayne Thiebaud, Maynard Dixon, David Park, Joaquin Sorolla, William Wendt, Richard Diebenkorn, Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Robert Arneson, William Harsh, Édouard Manet and of course, John Singer Sargent.
I'm also influenced by artists who paint with words: John Steinbeck, John Fanté, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Ken Kesey, Margaret Atwood, Raymond Chandler and the biographer T. J. Stiles.
