Kathy Los-Rathburn – WATERCOLORIST

Kathy, a native of Indiana, received her formal art training as a realist in watercolor at the American Academy of Art in Chicago.  She holds signature status in the Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois Watercolor Societies and also belongs to many other art organizations.  Her love for watercolor and passing on the joy and gratification of the medium to others has gained her teaching experience at the American Academy of Art, Purdue University, and many local art organizations and groups since 1974.  She also has been teaching drawing and painting in her studio since 1974.

Kathy’s paintings begin from within with her desire to create.  She uses watercolor because of its spontaneity and how the colors flow into each other creating new colors and patterns.  The dunes and how they are continually changing, blankets of snow wrapped around landscapes, flowers handpicked from her garden, nature scenes are among her favorite subjects to explore and paint. More recently, she has found a passion for painting the local Industrial Scenes of the Region and also the Streets of Chicago.

To paint, for me, takes my whole heart, mind, and soul.  My artistry is a “Gift” and it colors the whole of my life.”
