Michelle Garro
Massachusetts painter, Michelle Garro has been painting for over 25 years. She works in oil, watercolor, and pastel. Her primary subject matter includes landscapes, portraits, the figure, and still life. Her work is in private collections around the world as well as corporate/institutional collections.

She began her study of art at a young age in the atelier of Spanish painter Francisco Castillo. She has also studied at the Decordova Museum School, The Museum of Fine Arts Museum School in Boston, and with Boston School painters Mary Minifie, Joseph McGurl, and Robert Cormier.

In 2004, she opened Garro Studios which provides private and group drawing and painting instruction for all ages and levels of experience. In 2007 Garro launched her “Daily Painting” project in which she regularly creates small paintings (typically 8x10 inches or less) and posts them to her blog.

Artist Statement

Through the study of form, space, color, and the interplay of light and shadow, I strive to evoke not only a visual appreciation but also an emotional appreciation for the natural beauty and spirit of my subject, whether it be a landscape with sweeping vistas or a “portrait” of a single apple! My preferred method is to work from life. Small painting studies are also used to develop larger studio paintings. I find that this is the optimal way to paint the “visual truth” that is inherent to the subject.
