Painting still lifes goes beyond just representing the objects chosen; it's the process of painting itself that is thrilling. The handling of colors, simplifying the forms and creating a pleasing composition is what drives me.
Mostly self-taught with the exception of taking workshops with colorist Karen O'Neil at the Woodstock School of Art, blogger Carol Marine and private online classes with Sarah Sedwick, I have been oil painting since 2003.
I am pleased to have won numerous awards such as the Margaret Bevier Wright Memorial Prize for Oil Painting at the Cooperstown National Juried Show, the Symanarts Painters Prize at Cooperstown Regional Juried Art Show, Best in Show at Art in the Park, Saratoga Springs, the Oakroom Artist James Gilliland/George Weinheimer Memorial Award, 1stPlace at the Stockade Villager's Outdoor Art Show in Schenectady and the Fence Select Show in Troy, NY.
I am a full-time artist. I give private painting lessons at my home in Schenectady and teach workshops in the Saratoga-Albany area. I have also been a member of the Oakroom Artists since 2014, a long-established membership-by-invitation group in the Capital District.
