I grew up in an Air Force family and by the time I was 14, I had lived in several different locations including Germany, New Mexico and Washington State. Chicago was the final stop and it was in Chicago that I attended The American Academy of Art.

At the Academy I studied watercolor under renowned artist Irving Shapiro. I was guided by the combined direction of Shapiro and other teachers at the Academy and somewhere in the endless hours of study and process, I was captivated by the beautiful paradoxes of light and form, the amazing and incredible design of the human face and form, the uncountable varieties of spirited waterfalls and landscapes, and quiet arrangements of captivating ordinary objects.

Some of my favorite artists are Ingres, Sargent, Sorolla, Vermeer, and Wyeth. During a trip to Europe that included stops at the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay in France and the Prado in Spain, I added Antony Van Dyck and Velaquez to my list -- simply amazing draughtsmen and colorists. There are of course several others both contemporary and historical but the quality of this short list is enough to keep me busy for years to come.
