Suzanne Woodward

Suzanne Woodward has been capturing the vibrancy of the Maine landscape for the last 30 years. Working primarily in acrylic and watercolor, she is inspired by the natural beauty found "right in her own backyard." Her Maine scenes demonstrate her nostalgic admiration of the way sunlight--through its daily and seasonal cycles--can alter the feeling of the landscape. This play of light and shadow is carefully observed in her canvases through her experimentation with warm tone underpainting. Suzanne revels in the painting process, during which time seems to melt, and each painting session is a journey of bringing forth an image from the unknown. She also enjoys still life painting--just taking in what's around and asking, "What do I like about this scene and how can I make it interesting and fun?" Suzanne graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a BA in Art. She also studied at the Maine College of Art and has taken numerous workshops from Carl Schmalz, Carlton Plummer, Greg Deprez, Don Andrews, Guy Corriero, Marguerite Lawler, and Mary Brooking.

Her art has been shown at Community Chiropractic of Maine, SOMA Home and Body, The New England Rehabilitation Center, Wild Oats, Falmouth Library, Yarmouth Frame Shop & Gallery, Apothecary By Design, Lifeworks Chiropractic Center, Mary Brooking Studio Gallery, 158 Pickett Street Cafe, The DiVinchi Experience Gallery, Skillins Greenhouse, The Local Buzz, CIA Cafe, Hospice Of Southern Maine, and SOPO Art Studios.

Suzanne was chosen as the Daily Paintworks Spotlight Artist in June of 2015 (read her interview at (http://dpwnews.blogspot.com/2015/06/dpw-spotlight-interview-suzanne-woodward.html), and was recently selected by a jury to display her paintings in the Yarmouth Arts Festival.
