This daily painting took SO. LONG. Most of my paintings have been taking about half an hour to an hour and this one took close to three. This one was done from life after I’d gone shopping for some interesting fruits and vegetables and fell in love with this heirloom tomato that had a bit more character than the others. I had to paint this guy first because he’s a bit too ripe and we’re gonna put him in a salad tomorrow. Despite being my first painting from life in a long while, I’m very happy with it! That black/purple color with the very warm direct light and the bottom of the tomato being a warmer red than everything really threw my normal painting meter for a loop. Mixing the colors on this was so difficult because juggling dark browns and dark purples and the shadows was not something I've done in awhile. Thank you, tomato, for waking up my brain! The board I did it on is an acid free, texture metalic gold mat board that you can see around the edges of the painting. Check out the video on this one, I really like it!
