Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 128/250 (2). "ANNA'S 2020 VISION", 8" x 12", Oil on Board
Anna's 2020 vision, was borne out of a models dilemma in the class I teach on Saturday at Heatherley's and because I'm a speaker- I'm always looking for content to utilise in my motivational speaking, preaching and mentoring. This one blew my mind- I positioned Anna in a way that was a bit uncomfortable and it wasn't working because she wasn't facing straight on. She had a slight tilt and it wasn't working. But all of a sudden this week I positioned her to look straight on and she not only enjoyed the pose this week but we all enjoyed it too. In this new pose she was focused straight on, intentional, direct with no diverting or divergence. And it just hit me, like a bolt out of the blue, that I HOPE WE ALL THIS YEAR CAN BE A LITTLE BIT MORE FOCUSED, A LITTLE BIT MORE INTENTIONAL, A LITTLE BIT MORE DIRECT AND A LITTLE BIT MORE DETERMINED IN ONE WAY- AND REALLY GIVE THAT WAY ALL OUR ENERGY AND POWER- I BELIEVE IF WE DO- IT WILL MAKE A PROFOUND DIFFERENCE TO OUR OUTCOMES THIS YEAR, OR EVEN THIS DECADE. (Enough said..😂💥) Now back to the painting, it was painted after a thorough sketch was done with Winsor & Newton Brushmarkers and gouache on a prepared pinkish-orche gessoed board. I painted in my most comfortable inside-out technique. I just enjoyed slapping the paint and building up tones and temperatures while teaching the advanced portrait class at Heatherleys today. I used the oil colour in full blast with hardly any medium but by painting with the colour straight from the tube. Remember if you'll love to be part of this series, just send me a direct message. The only agreement, is that it must be put up for sale.
