Deliberate Portrait Practice Series 73/250 "BLONDY", 6" x 8", oil on MDF
This was painted with no drawing at all, just starting from one spot (the nose) I kept on navigating around the head, completing each phase before moving on to another phase. This was a classic inside-out technique. Painting profiles look easy but sometimes they end up being the most complicated. I did my best to keep most edges soft. During this series, I have had to constantly remind myself that it's a exercise where I'm experimenting, practicing, trying different ways to discover and master my voice in portraiture. Sometimes I take the whole thing too seriously and I must learn to let things go or I'll never complete the 250 challenge.
