Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 71/250. "MANE", 6" x 8", Oil on Board
Mane is a machine, purely athletic and dynamic. He has been a major force in Liverpool's frontline this season. I had to choose one were he looked serious, as so many other pictures show him smiling with teeth showing....(Portrait Painters nightmare) I used oil. The drawing was done with a Zig Art & Graphic Twin Felt pen (number 73). After the sketch, I worked with the insidie-out technique to finish the whole piece. I tried my best not to use the normal common mixtures for black skin, but I decided to introduce as many alternative mixtures to make his skin look more interesting. I also went a bit thicker with my brushstrokes and I did a lot of softening of the hard edges towards the end.
