Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 28/250
This is another teacher, never met him, but he has really influenced my work. Whenever I mention the Zorn Palette, this is the guy behind it all. A great draughtsman, sculptor and a powerful painter! Here I used the Outside-in technique, where I blocked-in the main shapes and then finished off the details on the inside. It was completed in one sitting, full Alla Prima and it's one of the paintings in which the subject told me when to stop, even when I went back to touch a few things, he said, "don't try it!" It was painted from a black and white photo, so I had to make up the colours from memory and experience.
