Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 80/250. "SPANISH MASTER OF LIGHT", 6" x 8", Oil on BoardThis one is my homage to the "Spanish Master of light". I couldn't find a coloured picture of him, so I had to add colour by inventing. As I painted, I spoke to him, he spoke to me. It was a pleasant experience! He said, "The older I become, the more I realise that drawing is the most important of all the problems of picture making." I couldn't agree more.
I worked with the inside out technique after sketching with Zig Twin Graphic pens. I added a few light wash glazes to state the tonal values. After that I just worked from one spot, which was his right eye and kept moving across his face in an anti-clockwise direction.
