Media: Mixed conte and sanguine dust on watercoplour paper

It doesn't really matter what colour He was, the most important thing is that He died to set us free!
I used a conte pencil on Waterford HP High White paper 638gm. I started off with a sketchy lined drawing then I used a lot cross hatching (influence from Jean-Baptiste Greuze) at the end I added sanguine dust with a soft 1 inch brush to soften the background.
This is Arnold who is the current model in the Open Studio at
Heatherley's where I'm teaching for the next two weeks on Tuesday and
Thursday. 5 I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. 6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me Song of Solomon 1:5,6.
