This was the last day of my 30 Days with this limited palette exploration, using raw umber, Payne's gray, burnt sienna, white, (and a bit of yellow ochre and cad red at times.) I learned a couple of things over the 30 days: 1) I really love these umbers, siennas and grays, but they need some white areas (I think) to create some pop, and 2) it's challenging to get a balance of warms with this particular cool palette... I think I'll spend the next 10 days or so exploring warm skin tones with primary palettes and will use the mixed grays that result from the primaries. I'll probably quickly include raw umber and Payne's as well; also planning to apply the paint with a process that I like, but don't always use. Adventures in painting!
