I wanted to explore the concept of a near monochromatic painting, focusing on shape-making and evocative mood​, and decided to do a seascape of a rocky beach scene from imagination. The rock shapes are painted with increasingly darker values from background toward foreground area, and I try to focus on the silhouette of each rock group, keeping the value difference within each ground minimal. I love the sense of a pressing storm created by the somber palette, and probably will play with this process more in the near future...
