When deciding on the name of this painting, I thought, ‘What is my home, and where?’ We've all heard the expression, "home is where the heart is." My ancestral home in this painting is represented by the old, chipped enameled cup that belonged to first, my paternal great-grandmother and, later my grandmother, at home in rural Louisiana. The modern blue vase stands for my present home in Upstate New York. The old book, the copper vessel, and the nearly hidden bud vase, were all purchased in Ireland … 'away.' But Ireland is where my heart is: my home. When deciding on the name of this painting, I thought, ‘What is my home, and where?’ We've all heard the expression, "home is where the heart is."
