Mary Beth and I purchased the brass pitcher at Fadó Gallery and Antiques in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland. The model for the blue vase was the ginger jar which appears in two other paintings of mine. The stained glass votive candle, was used in the model to add color. I find it challenging to paint metal. One of the keys to doing so is to give the metal object the proper highlights and reflections. I have artist colleagues who create the appearance of metal by mixing combinations of yellow, orange, red, and green. However, I confess to using the metal colored paints. To my knowledge, there is no commercially available brass paint. The brass pitcher is a mixture of bronze, a small amount of gold, some yellow, and a very small amount of red, as well as black and burnt umber for the shading. I hope you like it.
