This is the first painting I've completed during the current self-isolation due to the coronavirus. I'm calling it "Orange and Shades of Blue." However, it might also be called "Covid-19-1." I prefer the former, and we all hope and pray that the crisis will end soon, and there will be only a few Covid paintings. The painting is a bit of departure for me, in that for the last several years I have painted very dark, sometimes gray, vertical backgrounds. This time I ventured into a blue background similar to a cobalt blue sky. Blue is my favorite color so, against that backgound I painted the bottle, the book, and two vases in various shades of blue, plus a touch of black in the bottle. Adding a poppy tea cup and a couple of oranges gave me the complementary orange, thus the name, "Orange and Shades of Blue." The blue objects were created with various combinations of several blues, ultramarine, cobalt, thalo, and a tiny bit of cerulean. In my mind the jury is still out on the background. Any comments?
