A couple decades ago my English cocker and I hiked to the peak of Pinnacle Mountain. As I recall, most of the trail is relatively easy. However, the final about 20% is quite steep and covered with basketball size boulders. Sam just could not make the final ascent. So, like a good father, I carried him to the top. And, of course, on the way down I carried him to the point where he could manage the trail. Pinnacle Mountain sits near the Arkansas River and is a short distance west of Little Rock, Arkansas. The reference photograph for this painting was shot by my Facebook friend Brian Jones of Little Rock. I confess to taking a bit of artist liberty with the foreground.
