This is my latest attempt to "find beauty in life's ordinary things"-- old books and bottles, a candle stick, a somewhat unusual teapot with demitasse cup. All painted against a very dark background.

I named this piece Scholar's Table, because I can image a scholar studying, while keeping a choice of refreshments close at hand. Judging by the dust on the old liquor bottle, he or she might actually prefer the tea. Oranges are also available, and as long as they are not consumed, add brightness and cheer to the painting. One of the oranges may be trying to escape, as it has rolled almost off the table. We know the blue bottle is there, but it is almost lost in the dark background. The highlights assure us that it is, in fact, real.

By the way, when I was in the first grade in 1946, I bought the red book (a 1927 atlas) from a classmate for 5 cents or 25 cents, can't remember which.
