I did this painting for the current Winter Wonderland Show at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont. It’s called “Sugar House,” a maple syrup operation that could be in New York’s Adirondack Mountains or the Green Mountains of Vermont. Maple syrup making begins in early spring, but frequently when there is still snow cover in the mountains. This painting could have been called “Sugaring the Old Way,” when sap was collected in buckets. Nowadays trees are connected to the sugar house by a network of plastic tubes— much less picturesque!
