The whiskey bottle is quite old. Since I'm not a scholar of antique bottles, I'm not sure how old, but I'll guess it's 50 years or more. The faded label simply says, in script, "Private Stock Whiskey." I've painted the book many times, and it comes out a bit different every time, depending on the overall color scheme of the painting. The book was published in 1859. We purchased it in Ireland several years ago. The vertical background in this painting is yet another departure for me, in that it's not dark, as many of my backgrounds are. The light blue background in a previous painting met with broad positive review, so I did this one in a shade that might be called "butterschotch." This piece would be ideal hung over a bar or in a den or "man cave." It's framed and ready for hanging. The whiskey bottle is quite old.
