The principal player in this painting is the transparent green bottle created with viridian paint, applied with a brush, then gently wiped with a paper towel to give the bottle the see-through look. Showing the back side of the rear lable also helped. The very old dark brown bottle, which I've painted several times, is marked with a bit of white patina. It has a lot of character and is fun to paint. The copper pitcher is from an antique gallery in Ireland. The blue wine bottle is there because I like blue, and it's height completes the pleasing composition of the painting. The title of the painting comes from my hanging a painting of poppies on the wall behind the still life.
