Ah January - it's cold and wintery, yet at the same time, the days are getting longer, and the sap is just about to flow in the maples. The snow and brisk air make everything look and feel crisp and BLUE, especially at dusk and dawn in the woods. My goal with this piece was to capture the sunlight and the way that blue hues leave the woods and go back up to the sky for the daytime. Then the blues settle back in at night. This painting has a pink underpainting. I was worried it was a little too "Pepto-Bismol," but once I got most of it covered up, it worked out nicely. The spots of pink pull in the sunshine and are fun for the eye. Gotta keep you viewers on your toes and wondering what the heck you're seeing, right?
