Creek in Spring. 11x14 oil on canvas panel. A beautiful and peaceful morning to paint on location. I used a palette knife for most of this painting. Painting on location is a lot about holding back. Restraining from putting in every detail. Honing in on the subtleties. Picking and choosing what to include and what to leave out. So much more mental work than some realize. The more you paint the more you make these choices subconsciously and then you are painting from the heart with emotion and not just technically recording what you see. Kind of like a runner's high...you are in the zone. This doesn't happen everytime we paint, at least for me, some days are a real struggle to get the painting to come together. I guess that is why we keep going. To learn, to improve to enjoy. Creek in Spring. 11x14 oil on canvas panel. A beautiful and peaceful morning to paint on location.
