There is something special about plein air. On this particular outing with a friend and artist we halued our gear down to a creek in the late afternoon. After setting up, I noticed the sun was creeping down the bank swiftly. I worked with a sense of urgency to capture a brief moment where the sun illuminates the bank and creek. Thankfully i have painted here often and didn't get overwhelmed by details. There is so much information, so much green. I focused on the light, how it warmed and illuminated the subject. Discovering a fascinating interaction. The warm earth and the cool reflections of the sky. This is why I keep going back out to paint, these little intimate moments in time. With some paintings it is tempting to keep working on a painting. I could not ignore intuition on this one. The moment was fascinating and needed to be put in a few words not a book. 8x10 oil on panel There is something special about plein air.
