These cabins/houses are very old. They are on the sprawling property which constitutes the Xidi Travel Lodge in Xidi Village. Some of our group stayed in the single rooms which were in the same vicinity as the reception room which looked more like a museum. Those of us in double rooms had to traverse the first property, cross a narrow alley (watch out for speeding scooters and bikes - pedestrians have NO rights in China) then through this courtyard with the family cabins and the restaurant and down a narrow covered walkway to the double rooms. It was an adventure. Qiang did a demo of this same scene in the courtyard. He gathered quite an audience of interested art students. The whole village was full of art students. I tried to paint it too, but mine doesn't look much like his. This was my second painting from the recent China painting trip.
