Alpine Thistle grows above 10,5000 feet altitude and stand about 24" high when mature. It's a weird plant with a dropping head 6-7" in diameter, studded with spiny florets that big bumble bees love to nestle inside. They're very prickly, a bit menacing and otherworldly. I run across them when I hike in the summer on my way to timberline fishing lakes.
