Sometimes I just hit a creative wall. Do you? And that might mean that I
don't know what to paint as I flounder all over the place, a little
freaked out by the blank canvas. So for this work, I took time
convincing myself that I don't need to paint anything. Rather, I told
myself that the only job I have is to fill myself up with observations
of two roses. And before I knew it, after I did just that, I found
myself mixing paints and putting strokes down. I'm convinced that if I
were to spend the rest of my life studying roses and painting them, that
I'd never run out of new discoveries about roses, about paints, colors,
shadows, about the process of painting. And about the painting
life, really.
