Jordan Edwards was 15 years and at a house
party on Saturday, April 29th, in a Dallas, Texas suburb. When the party
got loud, police arrived and Jordan entered a car with four other
unarmed kids to leave. Unarmed.
Jordan was killed by rifle fire shot by police officer Roy Oliver.
The Balch Springs Police Chief originally
said the officer fired after the car drove "aggressively" toward him and
another cop but later retracted that statement as body camera footage
showed the car was driving forward, away from the officers, not
reversing toward them as originally reported. Officer Oliver has been
fired.
My heart goes out to Jordan's family. They
have issued a statement that says: "We do not support nor do we condone
any violence or threats made against the Balch Springs Police Department
or any other law enforcement agencies. What we desire only second to
having our beloved Jofdan back, is Justice for Jordan."
Jordan was a sophomore who was excited to play defensive back for his high school's football team.
His jersey number was 11.
