Ashe's Juniper occurrence in the Ozarks may be due to a once warmer, drier climate thousands of years ago and its stubby, gnarled growth can be hundreds of years old. It's found in two Arkansas Heritage natural areas, Devil's Knob-Devil's Backbone in Izard County and White Cliffs, in Little River County.
