This portrait (untraditional since it only hints at the face) captures a trendily-dressed young man walking in the hip Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. The reference photo was taken on a sunny summer day, and I could instantly see it as a painting.
This piece has gone through a few transformations and levels of completeness, and I am happy that I stuck with it all the way until its present look. While I usually enjoy thick paint, I felt like this painting didn't need texture to have visual interest. Instead, I invested my effort in developing color subtleties. It is one of my more delicate and thorough painting experiences where I paid a lot of attention to detail. I am very pleased with the result.
