I carefully saved some fallen aspen leaves from the fall as subjects for simple drawings with watercolors. I did this same leaf twice with different lighting and different watercolor treatments, and I like how both of these came out.

I use contour drawing as part of my process and that's how I followed the edge of the leaf with a pencil. Once the shape was there I allowed the watercolor paints to flow and merge naturally.
