Video shows tutorial for how I made this art. Birds are wonderful subjects for painting. Roosters are especially colorful and I felt would be a good subject for yarn painting since yarns come in lots of colors. I've yarn painted more than one version of a rooster to try out more than one mixture of yarns and colors. Here I am using the texture of the yarn to create a visual illusion of direction, shape and form. Horizontal strands of yarn create a flat ground, vertical lines create an idea of the wood on the side of a barn, random squiggles of green yarn create the texture of foliage, and the direction of yarns on the rooster suggest feathers.. The blanket-weight yarn I am using doesn't allow for small details which is actually good because it is making me focus on effective simplicity. Subscribe to my newsletter to stay aware of new art.
