My inspiration for "Summer Afternoon" was to explore the effect of dappled light on leaves and blossoms. There's something quite magical about this kind of light as it peeks through the foliage and lights upon whatever is present. It quickly changes of course; so it required several sessions outside at the same hour and then I completed it inside the studio. The flowers are called "Malva" in Spanish, lovely pink petals capturing direct and transmitted light. "A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in--what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars."
