A CHALLENGING CHALLENGE
I thought I'd start the new year off with a bit of leftover holiday. Unfortunately, the big-pig-of-an-apple, forced his way into the scene and pushed the hard candies out of the jar and on to the floor. Poor little fellows, no telling what predator might gobble them up now.
Actually, this is another Daily Paintworks challenge. The way it works is to setup a still life and photograph it (see panel 1 above). Then (panel 2) paint an under painting in just color paying close attention to the values (mid tones, darks and lights rubbed out with a Q-Tip). Lastly, paint on top of the value study in full color, but substituting all new colors for the real colors. Strangely enough, if the values are correct, you really can paint in any color and it still holds together! I didn't have a problem making the color changes but that intricate cut glass candy jar was a bugger. A very challenging challenge.
