I painted this from a photo my dad took back home. I grew up close to this lake, which freezes solid most winters. The ice used to get so thick that people drove cars across it! Not so much nowadays but it's a nice memory. The photo was taken right around sunrise. I love the beautiful pale oranges and purples in the winter sky. I painted this twice because I had trouble mixing my colors and had a lot left over at the end. In this version you can see what looks like a river through the ice - there's a current that runs through the lake which keeps the water from freezing completely.
